Organic Better Rest Blend {Two Leaves Tea Review}

I was contacted a few weeks ago by two leaves Tea Company* to see if I’d like to review three of their teas? Well, that was a silly question. So I quickly responded yes, (while logging some miles on the stationary bike at the gym, I like to multitask) who was I to say no to free tea? Then the waiting began. I seriously stalked the postman for a good week before the teas turned up at my door.

But finally one rainy day last week the tea arrived. Delivered to my front porch in the pouring rain (typically all packages are left on our back and VERY covered porch). By the time I got home the box was pretty soaked. LUCKY for me and more so for the postman the box inside was bone dry and protected by plastic wrapping. To say a complaint was lodged the next day was an understatement. In fact I do believe The Devotea would be rather proud of me.

Whole Leaf Organic Tea Sampler – note the old packaging.

Fast forward to today, a day not much unlike when the tea first arrived. Rainy, cold, overcast…perfect tea drinking and writing weather I think! But it is near six as I’m sitting down to write this. So I opted to grab the herbal tisane to start with. But first note the name change. Even I was confused when I saw the packaging that clearly stated two leaves and bud…I could have sworn I was contacted by two leaves Tea Company.

Well, I was. Back in July the company had a bit of a name change – which you can read about here. I guess the packaging is taking a bit of time to catch up. Then again packaging is expensive…so I don’t blame them in the slightest for not having everything changed over yet.

Yes it was a sachet…but full of lovely herbs and very few dusty bits.

Right on to the tea or in this case tisane! This is the Organic Better Rest Blend. According to their website:

If the sandman has passed you by, try this relaxing blend of chamomile, peppermint, hops and valerian. Lemon balm and rose hips make this herbal tea a soothing and healthy part of your bedtime ritual. Sip, sip, saw logs!

I will say this certainly had a lovely chamomile smell to it once steeped. That was after a full boil on the water and waiting 4 (er 6) minutes for the tisane to steep. I had a pretty busy/slightly stressful day at work. Which meant chamomile and peppermint were in order. Most of what I can taste in this tea is the chamomile, peppermint, and perhaps the lemon balm. If the other flavors are there well then they must be shy on taste. But I can tell you I can feel the soothing properties of the valerian and rose hips.

By soothing I mean it is or should be nap time! That’s what I look for in a good sleepy time tea. Something not super medicinal smelling, big on taste, and even bigger on the ability to make me want to go down for the count. Well, this tea certainly makes me want to call it a day, four hours early! So it looks like trying out their Organic Tamayokucha or even the Organic Assam (also from the sampler) might be in order. That is if I WANT to make it to my 10pm bed time.

My thanks to two leaves Tea Company for the samples. So far I’m liking what I’ve received. If you happen to want to try them out visit their website. In the sampler you get five of each tea and it will run you $7.95. Which in my book isn’t terrible for 15 sachets of tea!

Look for the other two teas to be reviewed later this week!

  1. If you ever get a chance, you should try their Tamayokucha. Quite heavenly.
