The Tailored Tea is a new tea house not far from my home in Upstate, NY. It was opened this Spring by Annie Misir (who is soon to retire from teaching). I saw her for a moment while we were there, but she is not only the owner, but also hard at work whipping up the fantastic food served at The Tailored Tea.
So I’ve been meaning to try the place out ever since we stopped in one night just as they were closing up. This was many a month or so ago…so I was really bugging my husband to go. Well, this morning he gave in. So we headed over around 11am.
I was hoping to get their afternoon tea even though it was 11 o’clock in the morning. Another local tea house does their afternoon tea all day, I figured it might be the same here. Sadly it was not. BUT this just means I will need to go back again…research!
We wandered into the old farmhouse and were greeted by one of the friendly staff members and quickly lead to a table in the Ebenezer Room – named for the man who once owned the farmhouse. We were seated at a table for two set with tea cup and saucers and the like.
It was really cute and something I would love to do with the shop eventually for folks who want to stay for a cup of tea. I don’t think we’ll ever serve food, but it would be nice to serve tea in an eclectic set of cups. Each table had different cups and saucers at each seat. A very cute idea. There was also an very interesting blend of music playing while we were there. But it only added to the charm of the place!
The Tailored Tea is located on the same property as the Albany International Airport, so we did hear a plane either coming in or taking off while we were there, but it didn’t take away from the experience.
As many of you know my husband is NOT a tea drinker. But he will try anything I get. So I ordered a pot (6-7 cups of tea) of Wu Yi Oolong from Divinitea a local tea company. I also found out they also serve a tea or two from Mighty Leaf and Harney and Sons. All the tea is loose leaf, which made me VERY happy and you can get some to take home with you by the ounce (more on that later).
I ordered the Spinach and Cheddar Frittata with the scone of the day a Cheddar and Chive mix.
I also came with potatoes and at first I didn’t think I had ordered enough…well I was wrong. This was really filling! Since we were in the Ebenezer Room, Mr. PurrfectCup ordered The Ebenezer Hills - roast beef on Farmer’s Bread, basil mayonnaise, served with a kind of orzo salad.
We both polished off our meals and were very full. But the dessert menu was just too tempting! So we split a lemon creme something.
You might be wondering how much of this was gluten free? My guess is very little, but that’s ok I really wanted to try everything. I wouldn’t mind seeing some gluten free selections or offering up some gluten free recipes to them. Dessert finished I asked about taking home an ounce of Chocolate Orange Truffle (which is a Mighty Leaf tea) I got quite the ounce for just $3.50, not bad at all in my book! Look for a review of it sometime soon!
All in all it was a lovely morning spent at The Tailored Tea! I do plan to go back, but the next time I will spare my wonderful husband the “girly” experience.
Meanwhile, the girly-girl who played tea party with her stuffed animals had a wonderful time! I wish Annie and her new venture much success!

Love this post – the pics are just too enticing! I mean the foodie pics, not the Mr ha ha. Anyway, I just want to nibble away. I went to their website too, and read some reviews on Yelp online. Funnily enough someone there complained about their lemon cake. Well, you can’t please everyone. I’d definitely give everything a try. Thanks for sharing!
PS: It doesn’t sound like a particularly girly experience to me, but nothing wrong with husband getting in touch with his feminine side from time to time.
Ha! Yes the food was really good! People are funny about what they like and what they don’t. I didn’t know if my meal would be filling enough, but my husband almost had to roll me out of there! Well, the girly part of it for my husband was the decor. Nice and dainty tea cups, flowers, etc. I was ok with it. In fact I wish I had worn a frilly dress and hat!
+1 to your “wish I had worn a frilly dress and hat!” Not the usual biker gear then?
And the husband looks happy enough.
Interesting idea to have a kind of organized chaos with different tea cups.
He was acting a bit silly and I had to use the photo. I do like the different cups at each place setting. I think it makes everyone feel unique.
I just “love” everything about The Tailored Tea. The food, the ambience, the “energy” are all outstanding! Most everyone loves their experience there!
